The Namib, “the vast place” in the Nama language.
Although Namibia derives its name from the Namib desert, there is much much more to Namibia than just desert.
“Just desert” is actually also a bit of a misnomer, as the arid and semi arid areas of Namibia are also really alive.
Landscapes in Namibia are spectacular and varied. The wildlife is second to none. Free ranging desert elephants, black rhino and even desert lions in the remote parts of the North West, dense bush veld and forest in the Caprivi.
Highlights include the massive dunes of Sossusvlei, Etosha National Park and the Fish River Canyon. Other interesting areas include Kaokoland on the North West. Here we find the Kunene river and the Epupa falls.
Heading North East we find the Okavango river. Forther East we find the Kwando river. This is the Caprivi with its wetlands. A mini version of the Okavango delta.
Friendly people, interesting cultures and excellent infrastructure.
Great value for money. The Namibian dollar is linked to the South African rand at 1:1. The rand can be used in Namibia.
This makes Namibia one of the most popular destinations in Southern Africa.
